German Vocabulary by CEFR Level
B2, C1, and C2 word lists are in progress and will be added in a future update.
The Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) splits language ability into six levels: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, and C2. Each level below links to a word list scoped to exactly that stage, so you're never studying words above — or below — where you actually are.
A1 — Beginner
Your first German words: greetings, numbers, basic questions, and the core verbs you need to build a sentence.
A2 — Elementary
Everyday topics — work, city life, feelings, technology — with 1,486 words organized by chapter.
B1 — Intermediate
Independent, everyday communication — 1,811 words covering opinions, media, relationships, and more.
